My thoughts exactly!

I will paddle eternal, Kevlar and carbon.

I have to wonder if this is just a typical adventure for Charlie. Hopefully this was a rarity and not how life goes for the poor guy.

What great theater! Each act was funny in its own right, and the combination was a scream--after reading/laughing through it for myself, I called my wife in for the second reading. (And thanks for the Kingston Trio/MTA reference--I'm old enough to remember it well, so didn't need to look it up.)

Short but oh so sweet. Very much enjoyed your yarn. Now I am curious about Whisky Jack Lake. Winter Destination perhaps?

Nice!!! I wonder if he ever made it out. Probably still wandering around talking to himself somewhere. Someone will find him next spring still wandering around.

If I remember it went something like that.

LMAO, I have tears running down my face. That was hilarious! And your reference to MTA was the final crack up to any astonishing story! That song brings back fond memories of singing at camp, but now it has even more meaning!

But in all seriousness, Charlie was incredibly lucky that he stumbled upon you. Hopefully he will learn to use a map and compass in the future.

Thank you, thank you for the cure to a crummy week.

I enjoyed your writing style immensely. With your humor, I think you could make a great story out of any situation. Beautiful. Me likey!

But what does dewormed mean.

Great read! Next time I take a wrong turn and am cursing the effort to repair my goof, I will just think of Charlie, and then it won't hurt so bad...

For all those folks way too young to have heard the Charlie of the MTA song and the story behind it, here its by the Kingston Trio. It is to the tune of Wreck of the Old 97, an even older train song.

Thanks for that! My folks had vinyls of the Trio, and I remember some of the songs, some of them fairly racy for the times.... I kinda miss records...

Obviosly you are a trained writer, or poet, or savant writer perhaps. Well done!

May I say that there are folks, and groups like charlie out there all over in the bwca. I have run into many bizzare situations out there and it is indeed a miricle of our Lord that the paper doesnt have a page dedicated to people who end up in peril such as Charlie.

First, thank you for all the kind compliments. Don't worry, my wife is now home and she has my ego back down to normal size.

A photo of Poor Old Charlie? I think he deserves some anonymity!

Whiskey Jack in the winter? Why not! I'd be interested to hear if it has any game fish...perhaps I just suck at fishing. Most likely it has no fish AND I suck at fishing, both.

Scat, DeWormed was perhaps a weak title, just a reference to Angleworm and the truncated nature of the trip. Oh, and I dewormed Cerberus that one time...

Saltdog, love the L&F suggestion!

No, of course. I just wanted you to cover his face so I could see him walking away with his pack like God did for Moses.

Looks like I have a hall pass from my spouse for ReWorming. (That does not sound right, does it?)

Gonna go give the Worm another turn, with one less Charlie.

That was a great read! I laughed out loud in my empty office like a maniac!

I'm planning a hike around Angleworm this fall. Can you tell me if the campsite on Whisky Jack had a latrine? Thanks!

He may hike forever, 'neath the beamy half-ton. He's the man who never returned.

cwiener: yes, the Whiskey Jack Lake site has all the accoutrements of a normal bwca campsite, including a latrine.

Of course, Charlie might still be sitting there.

I was worried that it might not be OK to camp there on an overnight paddle permit, but I asked and got the skinny from the Forest Service: totally fine.

I'd like to find out if there are any fish in there...
