Great report, Lisa!

I don't know that I'm ready for a solo...I was thinking I never would be after my August trip, but reading your report is inspiring. I think I should start with a group solo trip if I can find a group to go with. Find out if I can get along without the husband! He's such a powerhouse paddling and portaging that I am spoiled. I have no idea how to steer a canoe, though. I used to know, but it's been at least 20 years since I tried it. I'm afraid of waves, too. I'm also afraid I'd spend all night freaked out. ;-)

Are you going to scrap your solo trip? I need to get my craft things organized so that I can scrap more. I've hardly done any since the little one was born (and she's almost 2).

C-N-S,
A great report, terrific pictures and your wandering style has an infectious appeal. You are a quick learner and have a lot of great trips to plan. Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations Scrappy One...

I can't begin to tell you how much I admire your courage and guts to attempt this with your limited experience. You put most of the boys to shame!

Lisa, Great report! I WAS right there with you! Sorry about your spill in the drink, but it only makes you stronger! I am glad you were able to take advantage of my bear keg & also the great reading of Dorothy Molter. We definately need to think about a girls trip next year. Would love to meet your daughter as well. Welcome to the Solo Club! We Do Rock!

Great trip report!! It was also great to meet and visit with you. We really lucked out with the weather for our 'first solo's' I also agree with the statement "Because I can" Peace and Blessings to you!

Nice report, c-n-s. You mentioned that Mitch referred to tripping as his "spiritual retreat.” Then you said, "And it really truly is. Besides that small bout of anxiety on the water I feel such peace and calm." I'm curious ... what do you think about both anxiety and peace as being different aspects of the retreat experience?

Koda - i think there's bound to be both on any trip. For myself i knew there would be anxiety - especially paddling with little experience on my own. Which, during that trip I gained even more confidence in my paddling skills. The extent of the peace I found, however, was unexpected. I knew it would be rejuvenating but didn't fathom how much so. Everyone who has asked (none of my friends get it) can't understand how one can want to spend time alone, working so hard, without modern amenities. I tell them they need to experience it themselves that my words cannot do it justice.
