We were fishing on Ashigan in July and I got a fish up by the boat before ot got off. It was a vivid green with black verticle stripes and bright red near its mouth. I thought it was a bass due to it's shape, but I've never seen one so highly colored. I have tried googling it, but no images have matched it. It was probably about a 1 lb fish if I had to guess and about as long as it was tall although it's hard to tell since I only saw it for an instant. It was like seeing a fish in a dream. Does it sound familiar to anyone?

It could have been a hybrid Sunfish. Besides the fish already mentioned try to Google Bluegill Sunfish or Hybrid Sunfish and look at those pics and see if you find a match.

Yes maybe a bluegill and green sunfish cross.
