Could someone help me with line choice for Trout when trolling deep with a baitcaster type of reel? I bought one of those fancy Daiwa reels with a line counter.

Any help will be much appreciated.

20lb power pro is great for that application. Strong enough for any fish in the bwca, small diameter, you get more depth than you would with an equal strength mono, and very sensitive. I do use an 8lb flourocarbon leader if fishing clear water. Length of leader is equal to the distance between rod tip and hook keeper so the knot or swivel lives outside the guides.

This right here, you can get much deeper with less line out with braid, feel what is going on with your lure better and hold more line. If your reel is high capacity it will hold a ridiculous amount of braid that size so you may want to partially fill spool with some mono backing or other cheap line.

+1 on the braid. I use 30# braid on my line counter setup. 30# braid is like 8# mono equivalent. I use a fluorocarbon leader 12# or 14#. I'm trolling for big trout. To me, the 20# braid is too much of a diameter mismatch to a 10-14# leader. I like the slightly heavier line so I don't have to tire the fish out quite so much.
