I thought it would be good to make a post listing good places to stay with our dogs the night before our trips.

We stayed at Solbakken resort. It's very dog friendly as they only change $15 a dog and leave them treats and blankets for our dog. It only cost $120 a night for a family of 5 which includes the dog charge. The hotel also had a kitchen in each hotel room and had a nice lodge to play different kinds of games. The resort is on lake superior which we could see from our deck and a walking trail down to it. It is by Lutsen. Here is the link: https://www.solbakkenonsuperior.com/

AmericInn in Tofte, Voyageur and Viking motel's in Two Harbors are good places to stay with the pooch. I prefer the mom and pop drive up motor inn type places when traveling with my dog as it's just easier but unfortunately they're getting harder to find.

I like Rockwood for trips up the Gunflint. $20 per person and $20 per dog. I like that you get a private bathroom and a deck with a view of the lake.

By the way - The lodge building is the former lodge that was on the far south side of Sawbill Lake, and which was part of the Sawbill Lodge, which was torn down and given to the USFS in the early 1980's. My ex-wife and I stayed at one of the original cabins at Sawbill Lodge in the Fall of1981. It was owned at the time by Mike Senty who own(ed) Senty log cabin builders. The Senty's built a number of amazing cabins in Grand Marais and elsewhere along Lake Superior. I believe they also built the log cabin that Bill Hansen's family, and now the Shirley's live in at Sawbill Outfitters.

Tuscarora bunkhouse is great, also the Adventure Inn in Ely.

The Bluefin in Tofte allows dogs in some of the rooms. Just stayed there the first week of September with our dog.
