We'll be trying to stay on Vista Lake next weekend August 24th and are looking for fishing advice for the area and time of year. I searched for relevant posts, but they're all old and not for this time of year. It sounds like the small islands in the center of the lake down the shore to the island in the south are our best bet. Any recent reports on if there are still walleye and/or should we fish for bass and pike too?
Any end of August tips would be appreciated as well. We haven't been in the BWCA at this time of year. Would leeches still be the live bait choice for walleye? I think bass topwater is good at this time of year so we got some whopper ploppers to try. What time of day should we try?
The last time I fished Vista in August, it was tough. We couldn't really get anything going. As always, low light periods and moving water are a good place to start for any species. A leech under a slip bobber at dusk will work usually.
