Best part of going in April is that you can go to Lake One and not see another person. There was only one other car in the Lot and I didn’t see anyone else on my 3 day solo.

The weather wasn’t the best (but it was dry besides some snow) and I didn’t see much wildlife (a couple loons, a few ducks, and a beaver) but I still had a great time. I didn’t travel as far as I had planned because of the wind and cold, but I didn’t need to as I had Lake One all to myself.

The paddle out this morning was amazing. It was cold, but the wind finally stopped blowing and it was beautiful.

Looks like a great morning, and having Lake One to yourself is pretty much unheard of. Glad you were able to get out and enjoy it.

By no means we're they anything near a nuisance but, (being out at the same time) I did actually encounter a few.

Hey Ducks! Me too! Did a 4 day solo trip to Wine out of Sawbill starting Friday night. The wind WAS a bear so I was glad to be on those smaller lakes. I came back south Monday and the wind had switched out of the south so when I popped out onto Alton lake, it was a no-go situation. Had to call in to work for Tuesday but I got another day in paradise!

Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip and made it home safely by waiting it out. We were on Sawbill 11ish years ago in October the day a couple capsized and died of hypothermia on Alton. I have been extra weary of wind and waves ever since that day, especially during cold water season. That concern is a huge reason I stayed on Lake One instead of continuing on to Lake Four.

That's terrible. It's definetely more impactful when you're that close to a tragedy. I was on Tuscarora just a few days after a fella drowned. He and his buddy capsized in out by the islands. The buddy was able to make it to shore. Not sure about a pfd on that one. I used to push it when I was younger and dumber, but now it's just pointless.

So true. After hearing about what happened it drove home the importance of our decision to camp where we did that day. We took the first campsite on Sawbill near the portage to Alton instead of going further into Sawbill or even our original plan of going to Alton. I no longer mess with wind and/or waves, especially in the shoulder seasons
