I always like to ask this question each year, what lure are you throwing first in Quetico or the Boundary Waters? Our usual first stop is a creek flowing into a lake and I typically through the Zulu rig with a ZMAN scented jerk ShadZ. I think there’s a 90% of a chance on getting hit on the first cast! So whatcha throwing?

I'll be pulling a "monkey puke" spoon for Lakers Saturday afternoon!

Never heard of one! Is that the color or the name of the lure or the manufacturer?

Either a Little Cleo or a Purple Tail Dancer. I enter Saturday for the annual laker trip.

Depends where I throw my first cast! Should either be in Carp Lake or This Man Lake in about a month, and it will probably be a 4” paddletail on an 1/8 oz jig head. Likely pearl as the color, or maybe a gold shimmer color.

I like to fish a small local river from shore on opener. First couple casts are always a husky jerk to get the real aggressive ones right away, then settle into a jig and minnow.

I'll get set up in camp and then tie on a lipless crankbait. Always my first go to.

I'll setup in camp at the end of the first long day and throw a whopper plopper. New this year is I've converted them to single inline hooks from trebles.

Mine will also be a little cleo or a Taildancer, as I will be in the Tuscarora/Little Sag area targeting lakers.

Super Spook! Early evening after camp is set up. Last two years have caught a 20-inch smallie on first cast. Hoping for 3 years in a row!

Blue and Silver LIttle Cleo. Entering next week!

Probably a deep husky jerk in purple descent. Although I just picked up some new hot and tot lures that I may try also.

Unless I pick up a trip before my September trip, it will be a custom painted Pink/White/Purple #16 husky jerk for walleyes while I am mapping an area.

I will most likely toss a spinner bait or a lipless crankbait. I've gotten a couple different ones in the last year that are really effective locally, and I can't wait to try them up north.

Almost always a double blade spinnerbait, white or white/yellow towards the first weed bed or downed tree I can find near camp after we get set up and get back to fishing. If there is nothing close enough to camp and I have to paddle a ways first, then it will likely be a black/gold #9 Shad Rap trolled until I get to one of the locations above.

Black jig with rubber body.

05/14/2024 12:33PM
Likely a jig and mister twister.

Monkey Puke is the nickname of a green and yellow colored spoon. It worked well for me, I caught a few Lakers on it as well as all of our spoons on our trip. We just got back yesterday.
