I'm looking for suggestions for kids raingear. I am looking for affordable since they grow so fast. Any ideas would be great!

Thanks,
~Kristy

I bought this for one of my boys last year. I expect that he will get three seasons of use out of it before handing it down to his little brother. I thought so much of his jacket that I bought one for myself this year.

It is on sale now so for me the decision would be easy! I am not sure about the size though, it is listed as a large, but I only remember one size for kids. I will check his size when I get home tonight.
Cabelas Paclite
PS I have no suggestions for rain pants, although I would stick with the matching set. I take him in August and his legs get wet. :)

I have used rain gear from REI and Land's End and Gander Mountain for kiddos.

REI brand "Cascade" rain pants are all we have ever used, except I have some Land's End ones in the wings for when they are much taller.

REI jackets always seemed expensive to me, but I did use them when I could find them on sale (Cascade, matching the pants). Also used the REI toddler 1-piece rain suit until they grew out of those sizes and into the Cascade.

Land's End packable rain jacket lasted quite some time (nylon, taped seams) - on sale now at the Outlet web site for 19.99.

Gander Mountain has a brand name - something like Guide - that I got 50% off the clearance price of adult SMALL jackets and that's what they are using now. I'm sure they are nylon too.

I personally have had the Cabela's Rainy River Gore Tex jacket (and pants) for some time. Doesn't feel waterproof any more, might just be old. Never saw it for kiddos - at $40 in the bargain cave, I might consider gore tex for kids. At regular price, they grew out of them too fast IMO and we haven't tripped enough (2x year, 3x max for kids) to make it worth it for *us*. Glad it's working for you Soledad.

Good luck MOGirl! What sizes do you need?

BWPaddler,
My daughter is 7. I'm assuming size 7-8 (Medium) would work. I saw Frog Toggs on sale for $25 for kids, but I'm not sure how they would hold up.

BWPaddler,

I know what you mean about not feeling waterproof. I have a Redledge rain jacket and a Marmot Precip and neither of those jackets give me the confidence that I will remain dry in a long heavy rain. (they are 5 years old) I was hoping the Paclite/Goretex would fix that problem. I'll let you know in a couple years. :)

Great Soledad - please let us know! My kids are entering the age when they may not grow out of something so fast any more... (eldest is just over 5' now and I don't think she'll get more than 5'3" or similar) so I might get my money's worth out of a gore-tex type jacket. Love to hear how the Paclite Rainy River does for kiddos. I hope it does great!
