I was just up in Quetico and before going in was listening to CBC. Reports were coming in that firefighters are battling a couple of forest fires in the park near the town of Red Lake. Rain was forecasted for the area which the firefighters were looking forward to in order to better manage the fires. The fires seemed to be more or less under control and I didn't get any details on where they were located exactly but just thought I'd relay the information here.

Based on the information provided through THIS site, the only active fire near Red Lake that is actually INSIDE WCPP is northeast of Olive Lake. This fire carries the designation "Red Lake #7" and its current status is "under control."
The only EP likely to be influenced by this fire is #5 (Trough Lake). So, if your trek involves movement between Bigshell Lake and Olive Lake, you probably need to consult with the park staff to get there assessment of continuing fire danger.

Just heard on a Winnepeg radio station that Sask. has 44 new fires and Manitoba has 8. I'm in NW Minnesota today, and you can spell the smoke and the haze is so thick you can almost cut it with a knife. Haven't heard anything about Ontario or Woodland Caribou. With all the rain in the last couple of days, hopefully things will settle down.
