So my buddy and I are looking at going out on a summer hike or paddle, not quite sure yet. Problem is we both only have a winter set up. 20-0 degree bags/under quilts.

Who on here has utilized a Poncho Liner as an UQ? Looks easy enough and should cut out the heat loss from convection, yet easy enough to vent if it's one of those very hot and muggy Minnesota days.

I also plan on buying a cheap very light weight sleeping bag to use as a top quilt.

I am just looking for Ultra Cheap right now since I rarely do mid summer trips

I have a poncho under quilt and I made a poncho top quilt. If you are a warm sleeper you can get down to 55 night time temps, you probably will feel a chill though. It is really easy to make the no sew underquilt, if you have access to a thread injector sewing it up will allow the addition of sheets of additional insulation just leave a small opening.

They are simple but not extremely warm, good luck.

That's what I was wondering, what kind of temps people are comfortable to.

If you are looking for a very inexpensive solution, take a look here. I have slept very comfortably with a thin closed cell pad to 40 degrees. With something to block the wind, I am sure I could go colder. Otherwise ENO has a $99 summer underquilt that works pretty well.

I do have a ccf pad, it's what I first started hanging with, but I'm thinking of options that will allow me to vent some if needed. I can get very warm while I sleep. So I'm leaning more towards an underquilt as of now.
