I'm not actually going on a solo, but due to an odd number of people I have decided to rent a canak to try it out. I have never paddled a solo, let alone tripped in one so some advice would be appreciated. We base camp, and I generally bring a CCS Pioneer and a small day pack with me. I am a heavier paddler... I'm 5'9 215. Should I split my gear up into two packs of similar weight or will it be possible to trim properly with the pioneer carrying most of the weight?

I had no idea where I should post this but this seemed the most logical place.

Paddled a Canak empty, at the time 210 lbs 5ft6in. trim was perfect. I think splitting the weight front and back is best. Maybe a couple 20 liter dry sacks of gear pulled out of the Pioneer and used to trim.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to trying to paddle and fish solo, if this all works out I will probably schedule my first solo for next season.

I'll be picking up a Canak next month. My goal is to one portage trip and this is exactly what I thought of doing with my GG Quetico pack to help trim
