One of my favorite things about hammock camping is that I can swing through the air a bit as I'm relaxing or trying to go to sleep. A couple camping tips ago I realized that if I'm somewhat oriented in the middle of the hammock, I can raise one or both of my knees and move them back and forth to build momentum and get the hammock swinging, not unlike pumping your legs on a swingset as a kid (or as an adult). Beats reaching out for a twig or twig or somethin!

Or use a swing string. I always carry mason twine. Just tie a length to a nearby tree and then tug the string as needed.

remember physics. As you swing, you will put a much greater force on your suspension. Make sure it has the strength to hold you.

String or stick here. I have a Amsteel whoopie slings, polyester straps, and Dutch clips, so my suspension is rock solid.

being an engineer, I made a solar powered mechanical device that not only swings my hammock, but flips my pancakes too
