The Carolina Wrens down here in Texas have already fledged and are looking for hand outs. We put meal worms in a hanging tray next to the back picture window and they sit on the table next to the window and stare in at us if it gets empty. They are amazingly loud for such a small bird.

Pretty cool. If it were me I would let it be. Of course, when eggs appear (active nest) you can’t do anything to the nest until the young have fledged. The eggs take about 2 weeks to hatch and it’s another 2 weeks or so until they fledge.

Yep, I agree. We plan to leave them alone until late summer. It's a real pleasure to have them here. Such a big voice for such a small bird. Another bonus they eat lots of bugs. Now if I could just convince them that the hanging flower basket three feet away was a better nesting place we'd be all good.

For the second time in six years we have a carolina wren building a nest on the underside of my canoe deck. They don't come every year but two out of three times we've hosted them they've chosen to build in my boats which are hung under my back deck. It seems my solo canoe will serve a slightly different purpose for a bit. So how long should I leave them be or would you?? Cheers martian
