Reported snow totals around the area ranged from about seven inches in Cook to 14.3 inches at a reporting station a mile northwest of Ely, which was the highest reported to the National Weather Service in northern St. Louis County. Other reports included 11.6 inches at a station two miles southwest of Ely, 12- 14 inches in the Babbitt area, and 9.5 inches in Embarrass. The International Falls airport reported 11.6 inches. No reports from the Tower area were available as of press time. It looks like the Tower Trails were groomed a few days ago. I'll gladly take advantage of a few more days of skiing.

Any chance I could ski in the Ely area Friday or Saturday?

Portions of the Tower Trails were very skiable. Exposed areas were easily avoided, but after today I don’t think there will be many loop options. If you don’t mind taking your skis off, then I’d go for it.

I skied the Tower trails today-perfect conditions. There was lots of melting today in the afternoon. I’m going to try and ski again tomorrow morning but my guess is that by the end of the week skiing won’t be a possibility, but it’s anyone’s guess. I’ll update tomorrow.
