Hello all! I am looking for any information about mid-September trips from EP55a to Saganaga, specifically, weather patterns. This will be a 13-day solo. Towed to rocky point and starting from there.

Mid-September weather is, on average, pretty nice . . . BUT can also be highly variable. You can look up averages and record highs and lows on weather.com. Averages will be around 65/45, but could range between 90's and 20's. Higher temps you can deal with fairly easily; be prepared for the coldest. I've done a lot of trips in September and have seen all of those from 80's and sunbathers the last weekend of Sept. to snow the second week in Sept.

Wind is your other wild card. Stable weather patterns result in benign conditions, but changes can bring on high winds - 20-25 mph with gusts to 40-50 - which may occasionally leave you windbound. Prevailing winds are generally from the west.

Daylight hours are also shortening at that time.

Generally speaking, weather is highly unpredictable beyond a few days and certainly not over 2 weeks. You'll have a better idea right before entry, but be prepared for all possibilities over a 2-week period and have a flexible route/travel plan.

I'm just double checking that you know a permit for 55A only allows you to camp on Lake Saganaga. The reason I ask is that you are out for 13 days on a single lake and are getting a tow toward the west end vs. finding a centrally located campsite and then doing day trips (see the falls and more). Now if you are just planning to fish a lot, this would make for a good plan, but I would go a little stir crazy if I spent 2 weeks on one lake...even a big one.

The thing I like about Saganaga is that all the islands and the huge size give you a reasonable amount of solitude despite the motor traffic. The distance are great enough that motors always seemed far away.
