Hi friends,

Looking at taking a quick trip up towards Ely to find some good ice and do some fishing next weekend, 12/29. No snowmobile so looking at a smaller lake. Also want to winter camp or at least sleep in the truck somewhere nearby. I know it's too early for trout so looking for walleye or panfish. Any recommendations are appreciated, thanks!

Ed Shave maybe? Smaller lake and you could sleep in the truck in the lot or use the lone campsite. It's supposed to be a walleye lake but all I caught there this past summer were smallmouth.

It doesn't show up on maps but, there is a small island just out from the landing that people camp on.

Heck of a great option, thanks guys! Although, I saw the latest ice report from Arrowhead and it does not sound good for this weekend from all that rain so think I am just going to try some river fishing this weekend around here while the water is still (weirdly) open. Am very excited to find this site on Ed Shave though! Will head up there soon
