Canoe Country Flora, Plants and Trees of the North Woods and Boundary Waters by Mark Stensaas.
Not sure who mentioned this book a couple weeks ago, I think in the general discussion forum but I ordered it.
Received it a couple days ago. Very informative book covering trees, shrubs, wildflowers, ferns and other non-flowering plants that we find in the boundary waters.
It contains a couple hundred or so items. Most all have pencil drawings of each type. The drawings are pretty good but in a reference book like this I prefer a photo so I can really see what it looks like.

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” Ralph Waldo Emerson...and...“Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading".

I prefer [color] photos, too, but it's a good book with some interesting information in it, although it's not comprehensive.

Yeah, I've tried a few of these kinds of books, and I usually end up more confused after looking at inadequate pictures than I was before I went in. I have seen the book at a local bookstore, so I'll definitely check it out eventually.

I recently picked up "Wildflowers of the Boundary Waters" by Betty Vos Hemstad.
It does not list every conceivable flower or plant. But, it does offer brief descriptions & full color photographs of many of the most popular. As well as some of the rare orchids etc.
The really great thing about the book is that it offers full color photos of each flower in several stages of development. Where their most likely to be found. And, some descriptive history.
